The basic issues are

a)  The user can turn off javascript, which disables the client-side
checking.
b)  It's reasonably flexible, but nowhere near what you can do with a
roll-your-own or server-side.
c)  What about Foobar Browser v1.5, which has yet another non-standard
Javascript implementation (YANSJI)?  Or the version after that, or the
version after that....

Of course, anything you roll on your own for JS client-side has problem C...
