Adult doesn't mean overly long winded. That for professors and lawyers and 
the like.

I'm saying that it could have been edited down to even 500 or 600 words, 
and have been a superior book. It the same sort of thing that happened with 
Steven King, Anne McCaffrey etc. As the writer gets more popular and 
successful, their editors tend to do their jobs less and less.
