Yes, it is an unfair system. However, it's a system designed to offset a
bigoted world. I would love it if we didn't need a system like AA;
however, it's apparently still needed. When this issue first came up, I
think I linked an article that showed schools that had done away with
their AA program had significantly lower numbers of black students,
despite being in areas with a high black population. Yes it sucks. It
sucks that we live in a world where we have to play games like this with
the system in order to combat prejudice.

On a slightly related note, I recently read an article that mentioned
that college admissions are now biased towards male applicants because
better qualified female applicants significantly outnumber them.
Apparently, if the admissions offices didn't provide opportunites for
men, the universities would apparently be about 75% women students. Talk
about a societal shift.
