Actually the ironic thing is that my friend (Matt) had been
drinking, and he was underage. The waitress at the Applebee's served
him without checking his id, because we were there with our boss...

He ended up going to college and graduating before they even went to
trial. I'm not sure why it took so long, but he was already out of
college 4 years later by the time I left NC, and lost touch. They were
definitely taking it easy on him...probably giving him time to prove
he wasn't a hard case. He was a really great low key guy that just got
scared out of his mind. What I regret is turning down his offer of a
ride home, and rode my bike instead. Never would have happened...

Unfortunately the local papers online archives only go back a few
years so I couldn't check what happened.
