I have no solution for that other than to hit myself in the head
repeatedly with a tack hammer.

or just put all qualified names in a hat and pick the number equal to
the number of slots available.

I agree.

Perhaps the affirmative action should be amended to:

In cases where there are equally qualified majority and minority
candidates, the candidate to be chosen should be chosen when it will
more equally distrubute the employment racial balance to reflect the
national average.

This would make the racial balance in all cases.

Of course, I don't think quotas should be used in any case.

My wife graduated from high school Valedictorian and got a $500
scholarship. A black student in her class graduated with a 2.0 and got a
full paid scholarship.

Was it fair that my wife worked hard to get the grades she got and
someone that just skims by with little effort gets a full ride and only
because they are a minority? They went to the same school had the same
books, the same teachers, the same counselors and the same
administration.

Is the goal of Affirmative action to place Minorities and repress
majorities? I didn't repress anyone and my children sure haven't, its
time to move on. Affirmative action is outdated and needs to be
abolished. Everyone should work for there future and be rewarded for
merit not for race.

And in cases you are wondering and you want to say something like "They
are being denied the opportunity for the quality high school educating
that the white majority receives".

Van Horn High School Faculty
Principle: Mr. Brooks (African American) (Died in 1995 and probably one
of the best individuals I have ever met.) Sr. vice Principle: Mr. Brooks
(African American) Vice Principle: Mr. Tuner (African American) Vice
Principle: Mr. Buford (African American)

I can only think of one white woman and I do not remember her name, she
was a student Counselor.

White students were the schools minority and race fights broke out all
the time. The usual cause, stupidity handed down from everyone's
parents.

Wasn't affirmative action meant to prevent Racist whites from stopping
blacks from entering Universities, getting jobs etc. ?

Isn't the whole thing based around the principle that you must have a
certain amount of non-white people in your University etc.

AFAIK Racism is still alive and kicking in the United States....so I
don't see why there is an undercurrent of dissent that wishes to do away
with affirmative action. I don't think that all the people that want
this are racist...but if the problem has not been removed...why remove
the cure?

Of course it would be perfect if everyone got hired on merit. And a
black person and a white person could compete and the black would get
through based on Merit....but hey that's just not the real world..it
isn't America...or in most cases Europe either. So there needs to be a
remedy.

One could try to talk around the problem all one wants...but the fact
remains that Blacks are underpriviliged and marginalised in the US.

If not affirmative action..then what?
