I really don't know what the criteria is... but there are a LOT of songs with that same name (even if you forget covers). I would hope that that's not the only way.
There is technology on the horizon that might help however. For example it should be very possible to obtain a small audio "signature" of decent recordings: perhaps a profile of the highs, lows; louds and pauses. There's a company right now, for example, that claims if you're listening to a song (in a club or on the radio) you can call their number on your cell phone and (after paying a fee I think) let the phone "listen" to the song - the service will then return the name and artist of the song and let you buy the album. It doesn't seem like it would be hard to extend that kind of technology to identification of digital audio for library management purposes. In fact I would guess it might be easier (since the cell phone system would obviously have to deal with ambient noise and such) In this case I think the fact that "Laura's Theme" has been on SO MANY albums may play into it. Collections, compilations, retrospectives, stage renditions, etc 0 it may just assume (based on the name) that this is a version (and the many versions mean there's many different lengths to play match). In this case it comes up as "Laura's Theme" by the Boston Pops. Hey - I like the Pops... ;^) Jim Davis > -----Original Message----- > From: Dana Tierney [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Wednesday, July 02, 2003 11:49 PM > To: CF-Community > Subject: Re: Games Soundtracks > > ah, ok.
