I opted for a new and improved lasik zyoptics procedure. Its meant for
people with higher prescriptions, thin corneas or large pupils (I have all
three).

The procedure I had done removes much less tissue and is completely
customized for each eye (which means a higher cost) but is supposed to be
much safer and in my case left enough tissue for a second treatment where a
regular lasik would have removed much more.

As a cool souvenir I have they gave me the smart card that had all the lasik
machine instructions encoded on it. Wish I had thought to ask them to video
tape the procedure tho.

Wow! Congratulations! Duane! Fantastic. I am jealous.

I'll be having it done. Hopefully if not next year, then the year after.
I cannot see the E on the eye chart either. And I am so tired of contact
lenses and glasses. I've just been waiting for when it was safer to go.
;)

My best friend's mum (and bestest friend of mine as well) is a Professor
of Ophthalmology at New Jersey Medical School and about 5 years ago, she
told me to wait 5 years before looking into having it done.

I haven't asked her lately what her advice would be now, but tback then
it was because they weren't releasing a lot of the "bad news" about
having it done. Like the people who could no longer drive at night
because their night vision was ruined, and lovely stuff like that.

Another bit of info she gave me was, back then, when the doctors first
got the machines, they had huge loans to pay for them ... So they did
many operations at high prices in order to make the payments ... Now,
they've perfected their techniques, and taken more classes and lowered
the prices as more and more doctors pay off their equipment and perfect
their techniques.

I'll have to send her an email and see what she thinks these days ...
I'll post any response I get in case anyone is interested further.

Cheers,
Erika
