Hey now yourself, welcome back! Issue is not sq ft as how much "stuff" is between antenna and laptop. Wood-framing studs, sheetrock, microwave ovens, and 2.4 GHz cell phones all do not play well with WiFi signals.
In my house, downstairs/upstairs was no problem as long as they weren't too far apart horizontally. But downstairs at other end of house was a problem. I solved it by putting "WAP" (Wireless Access Point) at other end of downstairs, via wired Ethernet. Don't know if this is an option. My stuff is Netgear, works great. Have heard Linksys has a "signal booster" that docks with their router. HTH. Nice to hear from you, Steph. -Ben > Hey now! > How are all of you doing? > > I am expecting my laptop to arrive tomorrow *yeah*! > i want to do a wireless network inside my house that will connect my pc/dsl > downstairs with laptop and xbox upstairs.
