That's still one of the reasons that (I think) Deep Space Nine was one of
the best shows ever: the characters (and by extension their races) were
pretty much ALL thoroughly and completely fleshed out.  Although races had
certain traits (greed or religious zeal or whatever) each individual was
pretty deep.

I really miss good character-driven sci-fi.
