The mail server application normally does a reboot at about 3am. This morning,
it decided not to come back up. This caused the mail that should have been sent
out to just pile up in the mail que. The mail did get logged to the site for
those who were reading and posting using the archive interface. When I found out
about the mail being down at about 1pm or so I put the server back up. Problem
is, by then we had somewhere over half a million mail messages waiting to go
out. It took time to get everything out and moving. Fun, fun, fun.

on an aside, today was a major fast day and no work should be done and if it has
to be done, it shouldn't be done till midday. Otherwise I would have been up at
3am and saw the problem then. :)
