As for the deep south summers, ... I actually really like the heat, and have lived in the south for an extended period of time several times, including the north Orlando in August! I much prefer the deep heat to the intense cold. One of the reasons we've chose the Gainseville area as well, is because Lake Lanier and the mountains, actually keep the temperatures a bit more moderate all year round, than living in Atlanata and south of Atlanta. (from the research I've been doing on the weather patterns.) I wanted Florida ... But Phil said no ;) Trust me. This decision was not made lightly.
