Okay, so this company (Eolas), which holds several patents but doesn't actually sell 
anything, sues Microsoft for infringing on their patents with IE's use of applets and 
plugins, and the judgement is upheld.

According to the article, there will be one appeal for this, but other software 
companies may be affected if Eolas ends up winning.

Are applets and plugins really something you can patent?
