Oh wait. You're not really asking about software to allow remote desktop on
the Mac. You seem to be more concerned with the network connection and the
security of it.

I have briefly used the Apple software recently, but I don't like it
compared to the MS remote desktop. I haven't used Timbuktu since 33Mhz was
fast.

As for your network, the easiest way is probably to do a simple
port-forwarding for the ports that the remote software uses. The Mac is
going to be a more secure point than opening the same port for a Windows
box. That's fine and all for a start, but it's probably too limiting for the
long-term since that means only that user gets to use those ports. For more
flexibility, I would start looking at doing VPN for anyone that needs to get
in.
