Maybe you need to instruct the bully in the ways of the Jedi, personal like
:)

Seriously though, aside from what needs to be done to the bully, I would
suggest that your nephew take some kind of self defense classes. The mental
blow something like this can have can be enormous. The structure of martial
arts, and the self confidence it brings with it can be very beneficial.
There have been a lot of good stories from people that were assaulted,
robbed and even raped, about how much more secure they felt after some basic
training. I like grappling styles, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The Rangers have
been doing it for years, and the Army combative manual is moving to it. I
started doing it when I was still in N.C. Really good workout, and actually
a very useful fighting style.

I know everyone wants to see the bully punished, as he should be, but
personally I would be more concerned about how you nephew deals with it. I
have been jumped and beat up pretty bad before and it can really cause you
as much mental pain as physical. I know it would be great if we didn't have
to think about teaching our kids how to defend themselves, but we all live
in the real world (well most of us do). The cops and teachers can and will
only do so much. Many of them are just as scared of the bad kids as anyone.

Just an idea.

Subject: RE: fights in school - Update

So, I have more info now and that I'd share. The fight was not 100% one
side. The bully first shoved my nephew, then my nephew told him to quit
and pushed him back. My nephew turned away, and when he turned back, the
bully punched him right in the mouth. Still seems like a pretty tight
case.

Oh, and it gets better. My nephew's cousin goes to the same school. A
week before the bully threatened him. He reported it to a teacher.
Yesterday, the father of my nephew asked the principal about this
report... and the principal said he had no idea what they were talking
about. They went to the teacher who had taken the report - and the
teacher said he thought it was just stupid kid crap and ignore it.

Lovely.

I wonder if I can home school?

Oh, and the bully is still at school... and was braging about how much
attention he was getting.
