Yea, that's a good stretch of time... When my sister and I were 2 (me)
and 4 (her) both our parents walked out on us. Our grandmother picked
us up 3 days later when a neighbor called saying they thought they'd
seen us in the house but hadn't seen either of our parents in days.
That's the worst story from my childhood -- though I wasn't surprised
when I heard it given what else I knew. Deep seeded and completely
irrational fears of innoccuous things, repressed memories of being
beaten about the head and neck with random handfulls of egg-wisks and
wooden spoons for something I said, times when I'd become catatonic,
etc.
