Ben -

I started watching last night's (US) episode, and the intro scene with the telephone conversation could not have been more identical to the BBC version if it was...um...the BBC version with American actors :)  (altho i do recall that the subject of the Tony Blair missive was changed to Dubya).

To be fair, I've only seen the BBC version of that episode once, so my memory may be faulty.  Or perhaps further into the episode (after I had stopped watching), they made some signficant modifications.

Either way, I think we're both in agreement ...the US version is just bad.

I've seen two American episodes, and they did change the dialogue and
  plotlines quite a bit.

Unfortunately, just not for the better.

They really tamed it down in a lot of ways, with very indirect
references to things (I'm thinking specifically of vibrators and dildos
here) instead of the very direct (and hilarious) references (like the
  Jr. Patrick).

Can we tell what last night's show was ripped from, boys and girls?

Anyway, the moral of the story is "Watch on BBC America!"
