I wondered if anyone here could help me with a question. I posted it to a microsoft newsgroup via google groups but I figure the folks here are smarter than most of the folks there so I thought I would run it by you too.
Btw I can already tell myself to "use mozilla" or "use opera" or "format c:\ and install linux"! :)

I would like to know how IE manages cache and how possible it is to
control it.
A corollary to this is: What is the optimal cache size? I understand
this is likely relative to one's connection speed, hard drive
capacity, etc...
In the "new world" of Win XP, broadband and huge hard drives, what
impact if any does browser cache size have on performance?
I am trying to determine how IE decides which files to ditch and which
to keep. Is it strictly a matter of download age? Is file type a
consideration. Is there a way I can program my files to help them be
preserved in the cache?
If anyone can refer me to a technical article I'd appreciate it.
I am supporting a Web application that uses many .htx and .js files. I
would like these to endure in the cache but do not wish to "overload"
the browser by setting the "amount of disk space to use" too high.
