ohhh i was thinking of getting this san that i saw it was on sale had
uber disk space i should have gotten it in hindsite. I mean whats more
reliable then a san they never fail eH??? of course to be uber safe i
would need to buy a tape backup system to be super sure and do,
incremental nightly backups. :) My whole life is on a hard drive LOL how
sad is that hahaha.

Ok question for the other uber geeks out there. When I go through my
files on my computer it brings back memories kinda like watching a home
movie. So as i'm going through my files sometimes i find something old
that strikes a memory and it triggers me to go into a story about it. I
guess its the nerd way of watching home movies. But does anyone else
ever wind up doing that?

I can't really remember. All I know is that it was while I was married
and I've tried to forget the part of me life :-)

I remember getting nasty notices fro Mindspring about being connected
all day though and using all the bandwidth I could. Luckily I got
selected to beta test cable modems in the area soon after.

I've had one near miss. In 2000 one of my drives was having some really,
really bad access time. Found out that one of the platters was going
bad. I rushed the tower over to my buddies house, threw it up on his
home network, transferred the files to his SAN, replaced the drive,
downloaded them back.

Yes he had a SAN at home. This guy was uber geek. I remember having to
help him cut the ceiling tiles in his basement so his Compaq Server rack
would fit.

Ok, I'm all paranoid now. lol
I've been collectings MP3 since they first came out (1998 or something
like that) and I have some stuff that you can't find anymore post-RIAA
hubbub. Usenet, IRC, and Napster were such great tools. I have some rare
bootlegs and other things I never seen posted since I downloaded them.

Usenet is still a good source but most of the "groups" that posted there
have stopped or were also disbanded for posting warez so there is not
much of a selection. You can forget about IRC and FTP sites. You really
have to know someone to get access to a good server anymore.

I just tossed a 120 GB drive into my system. That's added to the 80GB
and
40GB drives already in there. Backups? HA! I laugh. Yeah, I'll be sad if
it
all crashes and I lose stuff. But I burn the very few things I care
about to
CD and figure if I lose the rest then it's called "cleaning house". I'm
too
much of a packrat anyway.

Backed up onto 100 CDs?  20 DVDs?  Have you invested in tape backup? :)
