politics, and severe disenchantment with the whole academic process to this
point. A few weeks before my defense I made appointments with each of my
committee members to find out their suggestions on what I should focus on.
They were all quite positive except for one sleazoid who told me he would
do everything in his power to make sure I failed my defense. After I picked
my jaw and ego off the floor, I talked with the chair of my committee about
that incident. She did not believe me, and said I was lying. After that I
decided that the extra letters behind my name was not worth it. When my
defense came, I first put my resignation letters in each of my committee's
mail boxes. I went into the meeting room and told them to go f**k
themselves and walked out. I've never been back. As far as I'm concerned it
was the best move of my life.
