Ok folks, I _thought_ I had my network setup perfectly, but this week
everything has gone to crap. Any advice would be helpful. Here is my
current topology:

Upstairs router has link to the internet. Three machines are directly
connected. The uplink goes to the wall and a powerline ethernet adapter.
Downstairs I have another PL adapeter going to wireless hub. I connect
to one of the 4 ports, not the uplink.

Settings for upstairs are:
ip=192.168.1.2
dhcp=yes

Settings for downstairs are:
ip=192.168.1.1
dhcp=NO
mode is router, not gateway

For a while, everything worked, than all of a sudden things started
messing up. Downstairs, my laptop losts its net connection after a
reboot. From the laptop I tried to hit the downstairs hub, but I
couldn't hit  it all. To make sure it wasn't a wireless issue, I even
tried a direct ethernet connection. Nothing worked.

Finally, I manually entered IP and gateway info for the laptop. At that
point, I could connect to my LAN, but not the net. I hit my upstairs
hub, checked what it was using for DNS, and copied that downstairs. Then
I could use the net.

So, that was yesterday. Today, about 30 minutes ago, my net connection
just dropped. I couldn't hit ANYTHING. I tried hitting 192.168.1.2 but
it wouldn't respond. Once again I had to manually enter my IP and DNS
info.

So, the question is, what in the heck went wrong? Why couldn't my
machine get an IP from the DHCP service on the upstairs hub? Why
wouldn't it even hit 192.168.1.2?
