I've had 3 hours of oral surgery recently and it was nasty. A few things I
did were:
Positive attitude - Focus past the pain and the ugliness of being cut open.
A positive outlook in mind can lead to a positive response in body.
Meditate - focus on the healing, control your body and tell it what to do.
It works for some and not others, but all in all it gives you a feeling of
control over events.
Listen to the doctor - he's an expert (hopefully) in what he does and if he
says to do something, do exactly what he says. To many people try their own
thing in ways that is just not helpful.
Pray - Really, there's been studies that praying and having people pray for
you has a positive effect and it pisses off scientists because they don't
know why. It even has an effect when the prayer recipient has no clue
they're being prayed for.
Eat healthy and well - provide your body with the proper energy and building
blocks to repair what has to be repaired. For me, I ate a lot of red meat to
focus on iron (for blood). I wanted to focus more on calcium for bone
growth, but had to take supplements for that. Think of what's being done,
what has to be repaired and eat for it. I'm always big on meat for flesh
repair but others may have other opinions in this area.
Don't stress- Don't be over active in physical activity nor in working. If
your energy is all going to work, there's less for healing. Sleep is also an
important thing here. Sleep as much as you need and then a little more so
your body can heal without any movement stress. I like to meditate to sleep
as it covers a lot of bases and (in my mind) gets the body to focus on
healing while I'm sleeping.
Hope everything goes well and you heal quickly.
