Think of it.... a 300 unit complex, with an average rent of $800 / month. Now if on average 33% of residents pay rent on the first (100 residents) and say, half of them pay in cash, that's $40,000 sitting in a rather unsecure office with a minimal staff present. That's a pretty good payday if someone wants to score on a heist (about 20x what the average bank heist nets).
If apartments kept that kind of cash around, insurance companies would not touch them.
