department in our organization to talk to them about our directory
database - our definitive source of who's who in our part of the
organization for all things web. This other dept was contracted to re-write
an app that dealt with a subset of our folks. Now, obviously, they needed to
create more tables of additional information about these folks. No problem
there. But, we went all over how to find them in our system. We granted them
select access to the needed tables, etc. etc. blah blah blah. Now, we have
to write an app that uses this same subset of people, using some of their
additional information.
Turns out that instead of using the select access we gave them, they used it
to pull the dataset and MAKE THEIR OWN TABLES! Now, there's no link between
our tables and their tables. They changed all the primary keys in their
tables, so there's nothing that now maps these people back to the so-called
definitive source of information.
Aaarrrrgggghhhhh! **bangs head on wall**
**whimper**
Is it Friday yet?
