After living in NY, I'd add "avoid tunnels whenever possible" as well. When
I lived in Hoboken NJ and took a bus in every morning, it often took well
over an hour to resurface from under the Hudson.
As for neighborhoods in SF, there was a nice place at a _really_ good price
out in the Inner Sunset, as well as a ton of places in Nob Hill and Russian
Hill (my old neighborhood) that I looked at last week... my commute to the
financial district is going play a big role in my decision wherever I end
up.

Congrats! Any idea where you're going to be living in the bay area? I have
family in Martinez that work in the city and their words of advice to me
were: "never work anywhere that you need to cross a bridge to get there".
Golden Gate
Bay Bridge
14 St.Bridge
Brooklyn Bridge
Rules out a bunch of big cities. ;-)
