I was.  This happened after I resigned my commission.

ITT FELEC services hired civilian contractors to run the DEW Line. In
my third year of college, one year after I left the ROUTP program, I
became quite disgusted with academia.  A friend of mine was recently
hired as a radar operator and told me about the job in a couple of
his letters home. It was coming up on the end of term and I decided
what the hey and applied for the job. To my amazement ITT FELEC hired
me and sent me down to Colorado Springs for 6 weeks of training, then
I spent a year up in the arctic. It was a really interesting
experience. Would not have traded it for the world. Where else could
I have seen horizon to horizon aurora in greens reds and purples. The
second project was sponsored by the Canadian government. I taught
grades 5 and 6 for a year in a small NWT town called Rankin Inlet.
