Marketing droids want to sell color ad space on the screen to advertisers.
Couldn't care less about the customer, as they are a captive audience.
BTW, this has been in the works for at least 5 years (when I worked with some banks on ideas)

SSDD.
Marketing droids thinking that users want a flashy, cool interface to
everything, when - in actuality - usability wins out over all. People
were using the old amber/green and black screens for years and years
without difficulty. Withdrawl money, check your balance, transfer funds
- you only need a few buttons and contextual menus for that. By adding
a bunch of bloated, pretty fluff, they're introducing myriad areas for
failure and instability.
