supports ssh. I think hyperterminal is the ideal way to work with this
particular beast, and you need to use a crossover cable to patch
directly into the box. As far as resetting the password goes, you have
to know the password in the first place. You can Flash the ROM, but I
seem to remember there being a default password that you have to know to
work with it.

Anyone here in the process of using an Ascend Max 4000 or have used one
in the past? I have a friend who bought one to plex ISDN lines together
but not sure the best way to connect to reset the pw and how do I reset
the pw ? Do I need to console in? Can I telnet if I can get on its IP
subnet?
