Between Clear Channel and Fox News the intelligence of public debate is slowly being strangled.
By the way, here is another dose of cynicism for y'all, which was buried as a short in the business section a few weeks ago... seems that some of Halliburton's subsidiaries have asbestos lawsuits against them. Just to get the obvious objections out of the way -- yes, subsidiaries are *for* keeping the affairs of separate companies separate, and yes, it is true that a lot of harm was done to a lot of workers by asbestos before its effects were really known. Anyways, certain Halliburton subsidiaries were facing class action suits. And declared bankruptcy....
Any why did this make the news, you ask? It seems that most of the costs of these lawsuits will be covered by insurers, who were complaining. No mention of profiteering by the parent company or anything...
Oh brave new world, where such things take place :)
