Have you tried the tweak UI utility? I see something about customizing autoplay in there.

I've got a 120 gig external hard drive using USB. It works great. I bought
one of those kits where you then add the hard drive which made it a lot
cheaper than a "real" USB drive. Speed is great. One nit - if you turn it
off (why bother) and back on, stupid Windows begins indexing the files for
auto-play. I've tried turning auto-play off before but it doesn't seem to
stick. So, that being said, I just never turn it off. Right now the drive
contains all my MP3s, videos, install files, etc.
