That was my only gripe with Columbia House. Other than that, I thought it was a pretty good deal. Most people automatically scoff, saying that they give you the 12 for a penny...but then charge up the yin-yang for the remaining x (i forget how many) that you are obligated to buy. And while it was true that those 'x' were a little more expensive...they frequently (like monthly) ran promotions where you could buy one and get one half price. So it really worked out to be pretty affordable.
As far as the DVD thing tho (WS vs FS)...I'd be concerned. I don't see CH as marketing themselves to video enthusiasts as much as common folk who "hate those damn black bars" and wish that widescreen didn't chop off the top and bottom of the movie (i shudder just typing that).
I'd probably suggest contacting CH and asking them about the WS vs FS thing. It's a fairly significant issue : )

Do BMG. They don't require you to say yay or neigh to any of the offers
every month. And you can reply via the web if you do want something.
Easy Peasy.
Cheers,
Erika

I'd say don't touch Columbia House with a 10 foot pole.
