::laughs:: I wasn't sure whether I should mention that, since I have been the purveyor of so much doom and gloom about inner city DC and Baltimore. You might want to realize however that the series was based on a book that was *non-fiction*... I was reading it as just another police procedural until I recognized the case of the woman who was killing off all her husbands. It seems the author spent a year tagging around with the homicide squad as research.

Seriously though, Baltimore is not a simple town. you can't just say, it's dangerous -- though you really want to watch out aound Johns Hopkins Hospital at night -- as some parts are very affluent. I repeat what I said -- anywhere north or northwest of the beltway should be fine. I really like Towson for example. And before you buy or rent in town, research carefully and check the neighborhood out at night. Federal Hill and Fells Point might be possibilities. My information isnt recent enough to recommend specific neighborhoods.

I have never lived in Baltimore itself but I did live for several years in Laurel and Jessup, which could be considered suburbs. At the time (late 80's) I drove a taxi and wound up in different parts of Batimore a couple of times a night usually. I also lived in outside Annapolis for a few more years, and it and Glen Burnie are also usually considered part of the Baltimore metropolitan area. I did not recommend them as they are on the opposite side of town from Timonium and Glen Burnie is pretty working-class, and Annapolis is pretty pricey. Edgewater, where I lived, is even further south. You just don't need to commute that far unless you are *really* into having a sailboat.

> Yeah... now I totally want to live in Baltimore.
