What platform? If you are on some flavor of Unix (like Mac OS X), you could use the iceplay streamer.
Q3: What are iceplay and icedir?
A3: Two extra components come with the icecast system. iceplay is an MP3 file
streamer. It takes a playlist of MP3 files at a specified bandwidth and
sends them to an icecast server. You can use it to broadcast pre-encoded
files, but it does not encode anything on its own. icedir is an
implementation of a directory server that will list broadcasts and keeps
track of basic information about public icecast servers (number of
listeners, bitrate, url, etc.).
You should be able to use the same controling software for icecast that works with shoutcast, so here is the shoutcast help page for "DJs".

Anyone here run icecast? I've got the server installed, and confirmed by
viewing the stats, but can't seem to figure out how to open an actual mp3,
or where you even define it. Ie, if my mp3s are in g:\music, how do I
request that via the mp3 player?
