I thought that 'hook' was actually out of the chassis? And had nothing
to do with the bumper and all that other stuff.
I could never have imagined that would happen.

I couldn't help comparing that video to Dubya's war on terrorism.
Instead of pointing the truck the other way on the street, pulling the
car's back-end just a little bit to the left away from the snow bank,
allowing it to back itself out - they tried pulling the thing up and
over the freakin snow bank, doing it the idiotic hard way. The result?
Ripping the whole back bumper off the car, causing crazy damage,
expensive repair, and I'm sure the guy who had to drive the car was
kinda pissed.
The only difference here though is that everyone standing around seemed
to agree that was the best way to get it out, whereas in our situation
everyone standing around would be shouting "QUIT BEING IDIOTIC, YOU'RE
JUST GOING TO BREAK SHIT, LET'S FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET THE CAR OUT THE
RIGHT WAY". Oh and it looks like the truck wasn't damaged in any way. In
our case we would have 500 some odd dents in the truck, the value of the
truck would have depreciated by like 30%, our lenders would have called
and canceled our financing on the truck, and everyone standing around
would now secretly want to throw rocks at our truck. And to top it all
off we used our truck to run the car into the snow bank in the first
place - hehe :)
