I'm trying to install the j2sdk 1.4.1 on my windows xp professional
computer, so I can start my on-line java class this week.  I'm am having a
great deal of difficulty.  The installer runs until it says it is 100%
complete, but then never wraps up and closes.  And I can not compile or run
my "Hello World" test code.  When I close the hanging installer I get a
error message "Java Development Kit: An error occurred while launching the
setup.  The remote procedure call failed."  I've tried uninstalling with the
"Add/Remove programs" control panel icon.  It runs, but does not seem to do
anything.  Then if I try to re-install, the installer tells me the SDK is
already installed.  So I can neither un-install or re-install the SDK.

I may have a problem with the InstallShiled installer.  I'm wondering if I
need to remove some errant Registry entries?

Anybody have any experience installing the java sdk on a windows XP machine.
I would really appreciate any advice you could give.

Thank You.
