The fact that they mention PETA is an attempt to link this 'cause' with the 'cause' of PETA, i.e. to make the liberal audiance see them a both being fights against 'big brother'. I mean, how can they reject a commercial against animal cruelty and against big government spending. If your against one, your against the other of course.
That's as much manipulation (i.e. product placement) as what CBS is doing.
