A gay/homosexual person can choose to not perform homosexual acts, but still be gay. A straight person can choose to perform homosexual acts, but not be gay/homosexual.

BTW, I HIGHLY recommend the show Queer as Folk. Great fun! We have the DVDs for seasons 1 and 2.
