The PSX was supposed to be Sony's killer All in One home theatre center
that did everything from record tv shows, burn DVD Rs, play CDRWs, and
provide the functionality of a PS2 gaming system.
However, for reasons unknown, they cut back on several of these features
at production. The drive speeds were cut back from 24x to 12x, support
for DVD RW+ recording was removed, along with MP3 Playback support in
favor of Sony's mini-disc format ATRAC. They say that there will be a
software 'upgrade' available to enable a few features that are missing,
but my suggestion is to hold off on this until we see what they actually
ship to the US market.
As for playing Xbox games? No way. THis is a Sony machine, Xbox is
Microsoft :)
