If it's an MS contract then that's all you will get, beyond the benefits
package they offer. M$ used to have the policy of using permanent
contractors but was forced by a court case to redefine any contractor that
was on a contract that lasted longer than one year as a permanent employee,
with all of the extra benefits- stock options etc.

Since then all contractors work a one year contract and then are laid off
for about 2 or 3 months. M$ uses this way to get around that court case. So
you would be working as a really low level peon subject to layoffs every
year etc.

Is this worth it?

Well, it is a one-year contract.  But the people who are doing it now have
been there for years, and they don't seem worried.

Then I would avoid that position completely, unless you are looking at
  it as a short-term gig.

Microsoft has plans in place for outsourcing all of it's technical
support over the next 5 years.
