This is garbage. Abstinence education does't work. That's what the data show. I recently talked with a person I attended graduate school with who is currently studying this issue. She completed a 4 year study of about 1000 students across 2 states (Minnesota and Wisconcin), half of whom underwent abstinance only education and the other half a very comprehensive sex ed program. The data was very clear. Those students who underwent the abstinance program has significantly higher sexually transmitted disease rate, higher pregnancy rates and were far more likely to drop out of school than those who underwent the comprehensive sex ed program. Here's the real kicker, those students in the comprehensive sex ed program were far more likely to be abstinent from sex during the study's duration than those in the abstinance program. BTW the study is coming out next November.
In essence Shrub et al are being idiots for supporting abstinance only programs. They simply do not work.
