Encoder and Real Media Producer are free. Windows Media Encoder is a bit
more feature rich (since Producer is trying to sell you the feature-complete
commercial product) but both will do "web friendly" files in their
respective formats for no money. TMPGenc is great tool for MPEG files and
is shareware.
Take a look at sites like http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ (the "convert" section)
for tons of information and links to tools.

Subject: Converting AVI to Web..
I've been experimenting w/ my new digital video camera and Adobe
Premiere. However, the trial version of Premiere seems to be limited in
its export options.
The "Export to Media Encoder" for saving to the web is not there. I can
save it as an AVI ( Roughly 1 gig ).
What are options for converting the AVI to a web-friendly file?
