kids.
My son and I had a complete ball with Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of
Persia (which was pretty violent, but not graphic) and Ratchet and Clank.
Were looking forward to the next Sly Cooper, the Transformers game and
several others.
The problem is that games appropriate for youngsters tend to be complete
crap kids games dont have to be banal and trite. The Simpsons: Hit
and Run, for example, is a BRILLIANT family game: every body can play to
some extent (my son loved to drive around, my wife and he did much of the
collecting and I handled the actual missions).
Id like to see more games like that. That being said I also love my horror
games: Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, etc but I personally like them pretty
short. I know thats odd to hear, but I like a game that I can finish in a
weekend. Ico, Onimusha, Prince of Persia, etc all of them were
criticized for their length, but I thought they were perfectly suited to
their stories. Theres no need to pad out a perfectly good story.
At the same time I do love my Final Fantasy, but every game shouldnt take
60 hours to beat.
Innovation would also be nice, but its hit and miss. The Eye Toy is
brilliant in every way, but the voice activated game Lifeline is much less
impressive (although they deserve every praise for giving the concept a
solid try).
Good, engaging stories are a must as are good controls many of my sons
games fail here: sloppy controls, bad cameras and cheap deaths dont make
for a fun game.
I personally would like to see less of a priority of mini-games as well.
Every adventure game doesnt need a racing segment. Rhythm segments are
almost as prevalent lately. I do like some variety, but all too often these
mini-games turn into torturous frustration.
I really dont have a problem with the releases as of late: except for the
fact that the best games just arent selling. Its a sin that Beyond Good
and Evil is languishing in the sub-$20 racks.

out of idle curiosity: What sort of games would you guys *like* to see I
know thats an incredibly broad question, but am interested in any
answers... I used to play a lot of RPGs, are those dead do you think
