(disclaimer: I love MM DW - I recommend it's use for anyone that does
not know how to code REAL HTML or CSS by hand - though they should spend
a week and learn that really simple markup language and have a better
understanding of how a website is put together, but I digress ...)
Back to DW ... My simple rant for the day ...
The code it emits is BS. It's bloated. Makes your pages heavier than
coding by hand, and should never be used for a REAL business website
that relies on being found in a lot of search engines, and I'm talking
about HIGH rankings ...
Now, I've not conducted a mass study and my findings are not scientific
in the least - I am only sharing my recent experience with Google
ranking and a certain website of one of our clients.
He is a DW worshipper --- even though I told him it was hurting him. He
built out all his stuff in DW. He finally got tired one day when he saw
his simple HTML pages weighing in at 40k+ ... and handed the whole
shebang to us and said "CLEAN IT UP" ... so we did. I REDID EVERY PAGE
by hand -- got rid of font tags, useless div's, useless center tags,
created a stylesheet and all of the resulting pages are now under 10k.
Where does the search engine come in? Well, some SE's only spider "so
far" ... so if they have to eat through junk code just to get to
content, then all that junk code counts towards the total number of
characters they will spider in on ... which means, you could have
incredible content and links further down your page ... but the spiders
will never get there. After we cleaned up the pages ... and a couple
weeks went by, he moved up 4 spots in Google and now sits 4th for one of
his keyword combinations today. He sits at number one for a number of
other different key word searches.
So ... all you guys/gals/aliens concerned about SEO ... bear that trick
in mind ...
Cheers,
Erika

How many people actually use Dreamweaver for a true WYSIWYG
editor? Or do you use it as you would CFStudio?
