just thought I would stick my head in the door.

I have to say the scenery is beautiful. Finally made it to Veracruz though the mountainous off-the-beaten path route we took was VERY much off the beaten path and wound up taking four days of second-class buses. Nobody tried to put a crate of chickens in my lap, Sandy, but it was definitely that kind of trip.

Still, the empty black sand beach surrounded by pine dunes was probably worth it. We spent that night in an old colonial hotel a couple of blocks from the oldest church in North America, and the kids went swimming in a shallow river scattered with lilypads while we sat over drinks at an open-air palapa on the shore.

We are now about two weeks behind schedule and 100% over budget. Fortunately there was some slack. We will stay here a couple of days then move on to the Pacific coast beaches, which are supposed to be gorgeous. Will probably need to beat feet for the border from there.

A bit of random whining...

Spectacular mountain views make crappy travel times.

I never thought I would miss self-service laundromats.

One good thing about New Mexico is that we dont have to worry about mosquitos much.

Next time I am bringing the freaking car.

<g> a manana
