Many laptops automatically disable the LCD and enable the VGA port (external
monitor) when you close the lid.

It would then reset everything to what it thinks you're external monitor is
- dig through the display settings - do you see anything for "external
monitor" or "external display"?

Mine has a multiple display adapter built in (the ATI Mobile) so it doesn't
do this by default but if you "linked" the displays ("clone" them) then it
would.

I'd bet you it has something to do with that.

Jim Davis.

Subject: desktop icons rearrange when lid is closed

Here is a wierd one. Brand new laptop - very nice - except it does something
very odd. If I close the lid and reopen it, I see a quick flash of the
desktop at a smaller rez, and when the screen comes back on for real, all of
my icons have moved (as if they were at the lower rez). I'm guessing the
laptop is turning the monitor off when I close the lid, AND lowering the
rez, and somehow that updates the desktop icon positions.

Anyone see this before?
