Hook in a pc run game server and you could have a fairly robust instant
gaming networks.

Extend the reach of that PC server across a wide-area 802.11 hotspot (an
Airport, a university campus, or a mall) with the full range of motion
allowed by a portable system and we might just see the idea of gaming as a
lonely, sedentary activity begin to dissolve.

Throw in cheap GPS receivers and you've really got something.

You could have semi-accurately modeled team/role-based gameplay: a bunch of
"infantrymen" with PSPs being lead by a stationary, PC-based HQ.  HQ would
be monitoring the networks, enemy movements and so forth (perhaps calling in
fictional air-strikes that have effects on real players in the field)
allowing the tactical strategy nuts the chance to shine.

The infantrymen would have a much more first-person action and/or stealth
oriented style of play.  You could even have "medics" or resuppliers that
would need to physically plug into their target's PSPs (via a wired
connection - all while dodging enemy "fire") to transfer their goodness
adding a new element to the larger game.

The same ideas could leveraged to do group, mobile "Dungeons and Dragons"
with one or two (possibly competing) Dungeonmasters controlling things from
a central server.

If the system became popular enough (to the level of the GameBoy) it would
be worth it to large walking installations (museums, science centers, etc)
to broadcast mini-games and educational content directly to these devices.

So many possibilities.
