Vacation suggestions

hey guys, after coming back from California with my family,  my highschool friend and I want to go out and do something.  But we aren't sure what.  The most "exciting" things we've done so far is going to South Padre for Spring Break (BORING!!), and going to Dallas for a wedding.  We want to do something equivalent to climbing a mountain or visiting the grand canyon and being one with nature, or wrestling a bear.  Outdoorsy type stuff.  Also, 8 hours of driving won't hurt either.  We want something kick ass and memorable  We live in Houston.  Anyone got any suggestions?  Whats the highest Peak in Texas anyways?  maybe we can climb that! haha
