After much soul searching I have decided to drop CF as my primary
development language and use ASP.NET (which has been on the back burner for
a while now) :(

It isn't that CF is fantastic or that given the opportunity I will not
develop in CF. I just recognise that as a web application developer
(freelance) based in the UK, the employment/project opportunities are few
and far between. It really is an unfortunate position to be in. Very much
the Betamax of the webserver technologies.

I will still be developing my Flash MX skills as I believe MM are pushing
Flash more than anything else (see there site) and that this has the biggest
long term potential of any of MM's product ranges.

What should MM be doing about the lack of CF market penetration? Make CF
Professional free.

When it comes to examining what type of projects a freelancer can bid for,
you will notice a large number of PHP (with MySQL) and ASP projects purely
because the server technologies are free. It isn't about how much longer it
takes to develop an application, but about how much it costs the hosting
company to provide those services on a server.

I don't expect MM to listen to this but then again this decision has been
forced on to me by market forces. The market has currently decided CF is not
a main player and who am I to argue this point.
