Sorry, I meant Sect 3.5 (not 5.5). Sect 3.5 is where the flag attributes
are defined. This would be a logical place to mention their use to encode
string-valued variables. Alternatively, if it's regarded as a kind of data
compression, it could be in Sect 8. However, Sect 6.1.1 is about auxiliary
coordinate variables, whereas the CMIP-motivated example basin(lat,lon) is
a data variable, not a coordinate variable, so doesn't belong in Sect 6, I
think.
