The University of Virginia Health System recently approved the creation of a Health System Web Center to serve the Health System's increasing Web development needs. We are looking to fill three Web development staff positions - one content coordinator and two internet systems specialists. While all the positions require Web development experience, two of the positions require individuals with knowledge of Perl, Javascript, and Coldfusion (it's not necessary for applicants to know all three languages).

Internet Systems Specialist:

Internet Systems Specialist is responsible for technical development, deployment and maintenance of Health System web sites. Provides technical support for web development activities as a member of the Health System web team, representing the needs and interests of the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Health Services Foundation, Health Sciences Library, and the Medical Center.

Here is a partial list of responsibilities:

1. Creates consistent structure and style for Health System web sites and pages following a well defined set of standards and guidelines set by the Health System Web Steering Committee.

2. Implements scheduled server administrative maintenance routines and participates in the creation of monthly web activity reports.

3. Performs necessary software and hardware updates to enhance efficiency of the system operation.

4. Develops interactive applications and utilizes new technologies as appropriate. Provides CGI and other web-based programming for Health System web pages as needed. - Experience in developing interactive web applications such as forms and navigational scrollboxes using Common Gateway Interface (cgi), Perl, and Javascript. - Experience in database publishing to the web using applications such as Cold Fusion.


4. Works with the Health System Web Team to enhance the overall HS web site by evaluating site content and structure and making suggestions for changes and improvements.

5. Verifies quality of information presented on the web by supporting development quality criteria set by the Health System and communicating with divisions on a regular basis.


6. Updates information and makes corrections on core web pages, responds to requests to modify pages, creates links, and participates in other site maintenance activities.

7. Assess and recommend needs for computer system hardware and software to support Health System web development.

8. Assists in the development of performance metrics to validate application software and efficiency of the system.


********** Web Content Coordinator:

Web Content Coordinator will assist with web planning, content development, and execution. Works with departmental content providers to coordinate provision of content and to ensure content is effectively presented on the web. May create and write content to appear on various web sites and work closely with Web Center staff to effectively market the Web Center to the different entities of the Health System. Will handle various special projects and tasks as needed. Here is a partial list of responsibilities:

1. Assists with web site planning, content development, and execution.


2. Works with Health System staff to identify and format publications for the Web.

3. Identifies and implements document management strategy to streamline document creation, publishing, and updating in both paper and web formats, e.g., Physicians Directory, residency brochures, etc.

4. Works closely with Marketing and Communications staff and departmental content providers to ensure consistent messages, quality, and style across all Health System web sites.

5. Coordinates the collection and development of content and works to convert existing documents to a format suitable for the web, e.g., Portable Document Format.

6. Creates and writes content to appear on various web sites.

7. Works with Web Center Director/HS Webmaster and System Administrator to establish appropriate directories and links on HS web server(s) and Health System web sites.

8. Verifies quality of information presented on the web by supporting web development quality criteria set by the Health System and communicating with divisions on a regular basis.

9. Updates information and makes corrections on core web pages, responds to requests to modify pages, and participates in other content maintenance activities.

10. Maintains familiarity with web development technologies and trends.
