It's getting harder. I look at boards like hotjobs.com and headhunter.net. But my experience with all of the boards is that they have been taken over by head hunters who shy away from independents. One thing I never figured out, was why client companies still use head hunters. The web, and sites like DICE, etc, were supposed to eliminate the need for headhunters, and thus reduce the cost of hiring a consultant. If a company needed help on a project, they could pay something like $25.00 to post a job on DICE and independent contractors could submit a resume. Now the client companies hire headhunters who post the jobs, consultants email resumes to the headhunter and the headhunter emails the resume to the client. In the end, instead of 1 low fee for posting the job on the board they pay a head hunter a mark-up of any where from $25 to $100 an hour. By the time a project is over, the client paid between $50,000 and $200,000 just to have an email forwarded to them. ----- Original Message ----- From: S.
